When you login to MetaTrader4 (MT4) / MetaTrader5 (MT5), it'll automatically connect you to the best server available. However, you can also switch servers manually. You can check the latency of each server on the list. Here we'll take a look at how to manually switch servers for MT4/MT5.

mt5

Step 1

Click the connection status in the bottom right corner of MT4.

Main screen Main screen

Step 2

You will see the list of available servers. Click the server that you wish to connect to.

Server list Server list
point Latency on the right side of server name

The number on the right side of the server name shows the latency. The number represents the ping, the amount of time it takes for MT4 to reach the forex broker's server and back. The unit is "ms", or one thousandth of a second. The smaller the number, the faster the connection.

Step 3

Once the server has been switched, the system will start to gather data. Click the connection status to see which server you're currently connected to.
