Precise Tracking with Fingerprinting
Most partner programs track partner results with cookies. However, cookies not only require user permission, but browser retention periods for cookie information vary, and FXON considers them unstable for tracking partner results. Also, cookies are highly dependent on browser settings and rules, and about half of browsers control cookies as part of the user privacy protection policy.
Major browsers | Usage rate | First-party cookie retention period | Period extension by issuer | |
PC | Smartphone | |||
Google Chrome |

Mozilla Firefox |

Also, cookies can be blocked just by users using privacy mode or ad blockers/security software. Therefore, as a mechanism for tracking partner results, it's an extremely unstable and unreliable system.
Do you ignore the cookie consent when visiting a website for the first time?
Do you use private mode when browsing web pages?
Do you have an app installed that blocks advertising cookies on your PC?
Do you have security software installed on your PC?
In other words...

Given this background, FXON concluded that cookie-based tracking cannot fairly evaluate partner efforts. Therefore, we succeeded in tracking partner referrer link information accurately using technology called "Fingerprinting" which identifies clients through device information, IP addresses, operating systems, and other access source information.
Differences between Cookie and Fingerprinting mechanisms
Impact scope on specifications
Item | Cookie | |
User blocking and control | Controllable | Uncontrollable |
Impact of browser settings and updates | Affected | Not affected |
Period setting for identifying targets | Possible only in some browsers | Possible in any browser |
Control by ad blockers and security software | Controlled | Not controlled |

Thus, FXON considers using cookies to evaluate partner promotional activities to be highly unstable and inaccurate. Cookie-based tracking is increasingly being restricted by browser companies and security software developers, and is expected to become unusable (ineffective) technology for identifying access source users like affiliates in the future.
